Chapter 13 Saved People
Chapter 13 Saved People
Will himself is also adapting.
Under the Dragon Blood Pact and constant pressure to survive, this body has become much stronger than it appears.
His senses became more acute, and his ability to judge and utilize the environment continued to improve.
But he always maintained a clear understanding—their strength was still very weak, and Shadowflame was their greatest reliance, but also their greatest source of risk.
Therefore, he was more cautious, choosing routes to avoid populated areas as much as possible, making sure to hide when setting up camp, and only lighting fires when necessary and with absolute safety in mind.
They moved southward, like three vigilant ghosts, hiding by day and active by night, inching their way along the desolate southwestern coast of Essos.
The scorching sun and rain of the long summer left deep marks on them, and also made the bond between them even stronger.
Until they stumbled into an unfamiliar hilly area.
The terrain here is undulating, and the vegetation gradually transitions from coastal shrubs to low oak and pine forests.
A clear but rapid stream rushes out of the mountains, cutting through the rocks and flowing into the bay not far away.
The air was filled with the scent of pine resin and earth, mixed with the salty smell of the sea breeze.
They hadn't found any decent food for two days, and Shadowflame's satiety level had dropped dangerously below 60%, making him appear restless and anxious.
Daenerys' lips were dry, cracked, and peeling due to dehydration and vitamin deficiency.
Will decided to venture further into the stream in search of possible prey or water.
The stream becomes gentler at a bend, forming a small pool.
There were traces of animals drinking water at the edge of the pool.
Vell gestured for Daenerys and Shadowflame to hide behind the boulder, while he himself, gripping a sharpened hardwood spear, silently approached.
Just as he was observing the water and looking for fish, a terrified scream and the splash of a heavy object falling into the water suddenly came from upstream, followed by the angry roar of a wild beast!
Will felt a chill run down his spine and immediately lowered his body.
Just a few dozen meters upstream, a burly man wearing a coarse leather coat and carrying a bow and arrows was seen staggering as he climbed ashore from the stream. One of his legs was covered in blood, indicating that he had been seriously injured.
Behind him, a huge adult wild boar with gleaming white tusks and red eyes roared as it charged out of the woods and charged at him again!
The hunter seemed exhausted and wounded, and was about to be pierced by the boar's tusks.
In a flash, Will didn't hesitate much.
He leaped out of his hiding place, not to save anyone, but because once the wild boar killed the hunters, its next target would likely be the direction where they were hiding.
Moreover, an adult wild boar is an extremely rare source of high-quality meat!
He raised his spear, but instead of throwing it, he charged towards the side of the wild boar, letting out a loud roar in an attempt to attract its attention.
The wild boar was indeed enraged by the sudden interference. It veered off course and passed the hunter, its tusks tearing a gash in his fur coat.
It turned its massive body around, its blood-red eyes glaring at Will, white breath billowing from its nostrils, its hind hooves pawing the ground, preparing for the next attack.
Will's actions were undoubtedly extremely risky.
He gripped the spear tightly, his heart pounding, his eyes fixed on the wild boar's vital points, calculating the distance and angle.
He had not received formal combat training; all his skills came from his experience fighting wild beasts over the past few months.
Just as the wild boar was about to launch its charge—
"Hiss—Boom!"
A blazing, orange-red flame, mixed with shadows, lashed out like a fire whip from nowhere, striking the wild boar's thick neck and shoulder blades from the side!
It's Shadowflame!
It had already pounced out of its hiding place at some unknown time, glided low for a while, and seized the opportunity to launch an attack.
This breath attack was far more powerful than ever before. The intense heat instantly ignited the wild boar's rough bristles and skin. The burning pain caused the beast to let out a piercing scream, and its charge momentum crumbled instantly. It frantically spun around in place, trying to extinguish the flames on its body.
Will seized the opportunity, lunged forward, and with all his might, thrust the sharp spear in his hand deep into the side of the wild boar's neck, which was already scalded and torn.
The spear pierced through tough leather and muscle, disappearing all the way down to the hilt!
The wild boar's screams abruptly ceased, its massive body crashing to the ground, twitching a few times before falling still.
Only the sizzling sound of burnt fur and flesh filled the air, along with the stench of burning and blood.
Will, panting heavily, drew his spear, took a few steps back warily, and looked at Shadowflame.
Xiao Long landed on a rock not far away, panting slightly. Clearly, his all-out attack had taken a toll on him, but his dark golden vertical pupils gleamed with excitement and satisfaction as he stared intently at the wild boar carcass on the ground.
It then looked at Will, making a low, boastful grumble in its throat.
Only then did Will turn to the wounded hunter.
The hunter slumped down by the stream, his face pale, staring in shock at Will, then at Shadowflame, then at the charred, dead wild boar on the ground, his expression as if he had seen a ghost.
His gaze lingered on Yingyan for a long time, filled with disbelief and a hint of barely perceptible greed.
"Th-thank you so much!" The hunter struggled to stand up, but the wound on his leg made him fall back down. He hissed, gasping for breath. "If it weren't for you... I would have fed this beast today! Who are you...?"
"Just passing by," Will interrupted him, his tone indifferent, and walked over to check the hunter's leg injury.
The wound was deep, opened by the wild boar's tusks, and bled a lot, but the main arteries and bones were not damaged.
He tore off the relatively clean hem of his undergarment and gestured for Daenerys to fetch some water, which he then used to simply wash and bandage the hunter's wounds.
Throughout this process, the hunter—who called himself Kalon and was a hunter living in a small settlement on the other side of the mountain—never took his eyes off Shadowflame.
His shock was gradually replaced by a gleam that mixed with awe, curiosity, and a certain calculation.
"That's...that's a dragon? A real dragon?" Kalon lowered his voice, as if afraid of disturbing something, but the excitement in his tone was hard to hide.
Will didn't answer, he just focused on bandaging.
Daenerys pursed her lips nervously, her hand unconsciously resting on a rough stone blade tucked at her waist—a weapon Will had given her for self-defense.
After the bandage was applied, Caron tried to stand up and, with the help of Will and Daenerys, was able to walk with difficulty.
He warmly invited Will and his companions to rest in his cabin, saying he wanted to repay their life-saving kindness.
"My hut is in a mountain valley, and I live alone. I have clean water, stored food, and herbs to treat my wounds. You saved my life, so let me treat you! And..."
He glanced at the enormous wild boar carcass, then at Yingyan, and swallowed hard. "This big guy, we need to deal with him, don't we? Enough to eat for days!"
