Vera Xavier stared blankly at Nathaniel Nathan, suddenly feeling a warmth in her nose. She reached up to touch it, and her hand came away sticky and warm. Looking down, she saw it was blood!

She instantly felt this was utterly mortifying!

’I’m so pathetic! How could I get a nosebleed over this? It must be because I’m under the weather, definitely not because I was having lustful thoughts about him!’

She immediately bolted for the bathroom in her slippers.

Watching her flee, the corners of Nathaniel Nathan’s mouth curled up. He raised an eyebrow, a faint, amused smile playing in his eyes.

In the bathroom, Vera Xavier washed the blood from her nose, berating herself for being so pathetic. ’So what if I saw a handsome man fresh from the shower? Was it really necessary to get a nosebleed?!’

She tried to calm her racing heart, taking a deep breath and telling herself to be calm. But as soon as she turned around, she saw the still-damp bathroom. Her mind, beyond her control, instantly conjured up images of Nathaniel Nathan showering just moments before. When she recalled the sight she had just witnessed, the recently stemmed nosebleed threatened to gush forth all over again.

She slapped her forehead, viciously berating herself. ’I’m not some kind of pervert, but right now, I just can’t control my imagination!’

’It must be because Nathaniel Nathan is just too handsome! That’s why this is happening!’

She quickly ran through all the times he’d been domineering and unreasonable, which finally managed to get her emotions back under control.

When she came out, he had already changed his clothes. He gave her a cool glance. "I was starting to think you’d fallen into the toilet and couldn’t get out. One more minute and I would’ve had to go in and fish you out."

She said with a perfectly straight face, "I had a bit of an upset stomach, so I was in there for a while. But hearing how much you care about me, I instantly feel better all over! As expected, you’re the person who cares about me most in the whole world!"

Nathaniel Nathan’s gaze lingered on her for a full three seconds before he said bluntly, "Don’t you flush the toilet after you use it?"

’So he was eavesdropping on me in the bathroom this whole time?’

Nathaniel Nathan patted the spot on the bed next to him. "Come sit. We’re going to continue our unfinished discussion. Don’t think a nosebleed and an upset stomach will get you off the hook. You made a mistake, and you need to reflect on it. We’re not skipping a single part."

Vera Xavier: "..."

’So all my effort just now was for nothing? The handsome man who’d made my heart pound had instantly reverted to that same old domineering, unreasonable bastard, Nathan!’

She pouted and refused to go over. Nathaniel Nathan’s eyebrow arched. "I usually only give people one chance."

Hearing that, Vera Xavier reluctantly had to go sit next to him. After sitting down, she felt she was being too much of a coward, so she scooted half a butt-cheek’s distance away.

Nathaniel Nathan found her little movement amusing. He desperately wanted to pounce on her and kiss her soundly again. But he knew all too well that if he really kissed her, something would definitely happen tonight, and this place was too crude and would be unfair to her.

So he forced himself to hold back, schooling his features into a cold mask. "Who gave you the nerve to go and swap yourself for a hostage?"

The mere thought of it filled him with rage. She really had guts of steel!
