Chapter 113 The Solid Dwarf
Chapter 113 The Solid Dwarf
"Change positions!" Gebu shouted urgently!
The dwarf is no longer capable of fighting; he'll have to rely on himself! And let him take the hits while he's at it.
Geb steadied the goat, then pushed it on its back in a literal reverse goat jump over the dwarf's head, landing squarely on the goat's rump. He took the crossbow from the dwarf and then pushed Dulin forward.
"Grab onto the horns and hold on tight!" Geb shouted to Dulin. The dwarf, enduring the pain, did his best to move forward and control the direction the goat was heading.
At this moment, Thorton and the two beastmen had already climbed halfway up, while the giant goat was still more than ten meters away from the bridge beam—at the current speed, the two sides would arrive on the bridge at almost the same time.
However, seeing so many orcs in front of it, the giant goat could no longer move its hooves. It shook its head from side to side, twisting and turning, trying to turn around and escape.
It's even more dangerous up ahead! If we can't get across this bridge, all three of us are doomed!
Don't let me down at this crucial moment!
Gebu pulled out a dagger from his boot, gritted his teeth, and stabbed it at the goat's enormous testicles!
"Meow!!!!!"
The goat seemed to have swallowed liquid nitrogen and accelerated forward! The dwarf swung backward due to inertia, and the back of his head slammed into Geb's chest, almost shattering his sternum.
"Cough... Are you fucking solid?!" Gebu said through gritted teeth, a sweet taste rising in his throat.
The impact knocked the dwarf unconscious. He mumbled something and fell backward.
"Blanca... I'm going to break my promise..."
"Once we cross this bridge, I'll get you not just salt, I'll get you diamonds!"
Geb used his small frame to support the dwarf's muscular body, rested the crossbow on his shoulder, and aimed the red-tipped arrow through the scope at the center of the bridge...
The instant the goat's hoof stepped onto the wooden bridge, the half-deer leaped up from the side, and the three beastmen also vaulted onto the bridge—
The sheep's face was contorted in pain, the beast's face was ferocious, the dwarf was bewildered, and Gebu was completely absorbed.
His eyes widened as he pulled the trigger of the crossbow!
Flames shot out, and wood chips flew everywhere!
-----------------
Slow motion.
Goats are flying in the air.
The bridge collapsed beneath our feet.
Its hooves are kicking at the place that no longer exists.
The goat slipped.
The goat was terrified, stuck out its tongue, and drooled wildly.
The goat fell...
whereabouts……
Then its front hooves stepped onto the edge of the broken bridge on the other side!
"Magnubier's ass!"
The bridge had not completely collapsed; the remaining bridge deck was tilted at a 45-degree angle. The goat's front hooves were firmly planted on the edge of the broken bridge, while its hind hooves were slipping on the slope—it bleated and used all its strength to climb upwards!
The dwarf's body pressed down on Gebu, who clenched the sheep's rear end tightly between his bulging veins.
"You're so heavy!"
Gebu couldn't hold on any longer; his legs were aching terribly, and he couldn't dodge. He was about to fall—
Dulin suddenly regained some consciousness, grabbed the sheep's neck with one hand, and turned around to grab Gebu's arm with the other! The halfling slid down, holding only the dwarf's hand, dangling behind the sheep's rump.
Gebu turned his head, and below him was the rushing, dark river—two beastmen's heads peeked out from the edge of the broken bridge on the other side, baring their fangs and lunging to pounce—
"Let me go!" Geb shouted at Dulin. At this distance, he was at the very back with nowhere to hide; he was a sitting duck!
"I've caught you, Gebu! I won't abandon you!" the dwarf said resolutely, his face pale. Fine beads of sweat covered his forehead as he endured the pain, his eyes filled with unwavering devotion.
What the hell are you doing, trying to be a hero at a time like this?!
Before Gebu could even speak, two dark figures flashed past in his peripheral vision. He turned around and quickly chanted the incantation:
"Vis Missilium!"
Three spindle-shaped energy fields flew out from between Geb's left hands, swirling and then dispersing, drawing three smooth arcs in the air!
The beastman leaped into the air, and a magical missile struck him precisely on the forehead! He was slammed into the air as if hit by a magical brick, then crashed down, claws outstretched!
Another beastman was hit in the stomach by the second magic missile, rolled in the air, and crashed onto the sloping bridge!
The third magic missile whizzed past his ear, and the beastman's dog ears stood up. He clutched his stomach and charged at the halfling in front of him!
The magic missile that missed its target circled halfway through the air, then came back and struck the beastman's dog-like face hard!
"Awooo!" The beastman screamed and fell off the broken bridge, splashing into the river and being swept away.
Geb then grabbed the dwarf's hand and climbed up, while Dulin groaned in pain as he used all his strength to pull Geb onto the goat's back.
The goat wasn't idle either. It pushed off with its hind legs, leaped upwards, and used its front legs to flip over onto the broken bridge!
A bowstring twanged!
A twisted black line swept across Geb and Dulin's heads, piercing straight through the back of the giant goat's head—its body jolted, all its muscles instantly stiffened, and then it slid down!
No...no, no, no!
The goat fell straight down, dragging the dwarf and Gebu into the river!
Before Gebu was swallowed by the river, the last thing he saw was the half-deer man Soton crossing the edge of the broken bridge through the eyes of a beast.
thump!
-----------------
"Cough! Cough cough!" The half-man was bobbing in the river water, and the icy water poured into his mouth and choked into his lungs through his trachea.
All he could see in his field of vision were the motionless goat floating on the water and the dwarf whose face was only half visible. This solid lump of flesh would sink to the bottom if it fell into the water.
Gebu ignored the dwarfs and dove into the water, trying to adjust his posture and swim towards the shore. However, the river was too fast and the undercurrents were too strong. As soon as he submerged, the rushing water hit his face, and for a moment he couldn't tell where the surface of the water was or where the riverbed was. Everything in front of him was pitch black.
Don't panic...don't panic...it's so cold.
Geb held his breath, let his body float to the surface, and then broke the surface!
As soon as my head peeked out, I heard a short whistle—and then I saw many blurry shadows on both sides of the riverbank!
"The dwarves are here!" a voice cried.
Both sides are beastmen! Gebu knew this was bad.
I... I think I'll just go down!
Geb spat out the water from his chest, but choked again and couldn't catch his breath. He reached for the dimensional bag at his waist, struggled to lift it out of the water, opened it, and then dove inside!
The halfling tumbled and twisted in the water, performing an extremely difficult gymnastic move as it slipped into the dimensional bag—luckily, the halfling's body was flexible enough.
In the dark pocket dimension, Geb was completely cut off from the outside world's senses for an hour... He used arcane recollection to return to a spell slot, and then there was nothing to do but wait.
One can only pray that those beastmen won't discover the bag floating downstream in the pitch-black river...
To whom can I pray?
Magnubier?
Oppak?
Could he be a traveler...?
I hope that weirdo doesn't crawl out from the bottom of the bag.
Inside the dimensional bag, Gebu hugged his knees, curled his body into a ball, and waited for time to pass second by second.
