Chapter 133 The Newcomers' First Patrol
She seemed to have tidied herself up a bit; her long red hair no longer looked so messy. Although her face still looked a little sleepy, her red vertical pupils brightened noticeably after smelling the faint aroma of food wafting from the kitchen.
Once everyone had arrived, Rudik stared blankly at the fact that everyone else was wearing wizard robes except for him, who had specially changed into a tailcoat and looked somewhat out of place. He immediately had the idea of going back to change his clothes.
Unfortunately, the waiters started serving the dishes, so he had to abandon his idea of going back to change his clothes and took a seat at Li Ang's invitation.
As the fragrant and generously portioned dishes filled the round table, Li Ang, as the team leader, took the lead, raising a wooden glass filled with amber-colored fruit wine and standing up: "Today marks the first official gathering of our First Special Operations Group. In the future, we will be each other's most reliable comrades and partners. This first toast is to our team; may we overcome all difficulties and move forward side by side."
"A toast to the team!" Maya raised her glass with gusto.
"A toast to the captain, a toast to everyone," Ludick echoed excitedly.
"May we overcome all dangers and have a safe journey," Helena said with a smile, raising her glass.
Olivia, unusually, picked up her glass, stared at the swirling liquid inside, inhaled the sweet fruity aroma, and then, mimicking everyone else, raised it and mumbled, "Mmm—a toast—a toast."
The group clinked glasses, and the sweet, slightly bubbly fruit wine instantly dispelled the somber feeling from the farewell ceremony that afternoon, quickly enlivening the atmosphere.
During the meal, Maya barely ate any food, but kept raising her glass and drinking heartily.
Although she had previously complained that it was just juice, she drank more than anyone else, and almost two-thirds of a large barrel of fruit wine was consumed by her.
Ludick appeared somewhat reserved, taking small bites of pasta and salad, but he maintained a smile throughout.
Helena seemed to particularly enjoy the creamy wild mushrooms and jade fish, munching on them in small bites while occasionally clinking glasses with Maya, her demeanor very dignified.
Olivia, on the other hand, truly demonstrated what it means to have the stomach of a dragon. At first, she tried to maintain some decorum by using a knife and fork, but she quickly gave up under the temptation of the delicious food.
She eats incredibly fast and accepts almost anything offered; the roast chicken practically vanished in front of her.
She scooped the stewed beef, broth and all, into a plate, then slurped it down with meat sauce noodles.
Finally, there was the roasted lamb leg, which weighed over ten kilograms.
Li Ang and the others only sliced a few pieces onto their plates, while she picked up the rest with her hands and ate it, bones and all, with a crunching sound.
This action left everyone dumbfounded; she had just chewed up the thick and hard ibex bone.
Li Ang suppressed his surprise, watched the dishes in front of him disappear at a visible rate, silently got up, and went to the waiter twice more to order more dishes before he could barely fill the bottomless stomach of the red dragon girl.
After a satisfying meal, Olivia leaned back in her chair, patted her slightly protruding belly, and looked drowsy. She even let out a burp that smelled of fruit wine and a faint sulfur.
Seeing that everyone had finished eating, Li Ang tapped on the table to attract everyone's attention.
"Everyone, the celebration is over, let's get down to business." He became serious.
"Starting tomorrow, our First Special Operations Group will officially begin patrol missions."
Upon hearing the mission, Maya immediately sat up straight, and Ludick and Helena also put away their smiles and listened attentively. Even Olivia waved to indicate that she was listening.
"Tomorrow we will be responsible for the early morning air patrol. The route will be issued later via badges. The assembly time is 6:00 AM, and the assembly point is the second flight platform on the tenth floor."
Li Ang's gaze swept over everyone, finally lingering on Olivia for a moment.
"Everyone, please be punctual and don't be late. Especially Olivia, remember to set your alarm or have your attendant wake you up."
Under the combined influence of the delicious food and the previous warning about clearing out her assets, Olivia finally became more serious and nodded: "I know, I'll get up."
"Alright, that's all for tonight. Everyone, go home and get some rest so you can recharge your energy," Li Ang announced, ending the dinner.
The group said their goodbyes and returned to their dormitories.
Back in his familiar single room, Li Ang took off his robe and collapsed onto the bed.
Lying in bed, Li Ang let out a long breath, trying to release the pent-up frustration in his chest.
Today he witnessed the scene of the coffin being buried. Although he did not show it on the surface, the names and faces of the fallen team members, as well as the solemn tone of the faction leader reading the eulogy, kept replaying in his mind.
Witnessing the death of his comrade gave him a more direct and profound understanding of the responsibility and risks represented by the law enforcement team badge.
He closed his eyes, forced himself to stop thinking, adjusted his breathing, and gradually sank into meditation, conserving his energy for tomorrow's task.
The next morning, before dawn, Li Ang had already woken up.
He carefully checked his belongings, confirming that his wand, potions, inner armor, and ring were all correct. Then he picked up the [Swift 200] broom leaning against the wall and arrived at the tenth-floor flying platform ahead of schedule.
Now it's his turn to fulfill the responsibilities of the team leader, and he's the first one to arrive every day.
Just like Captain Eric has always done.
A cool morning breeze caressed the platform, and the outline of the distant port gradually became clear in the brightening sky.
Soon, the team members appeared one after another. To Li Ang's relief, no one was late for the first official mission.
Sandramea was still wearing her gleaming full armor, carrying her shield and warhammer, her face beaming with excitement. Her broom was one she had just bought a couple of days ago, the same model as Leon's, the [Swift 200].
Ludick and Helena used the standard brooms issued to them by the law enforcement team, which were a little slower but steady enough.
However, when Li Ang saw Olivia, who arrived last, he couldn't help but feel helpless. She was empty-handed, and there wasn't even a trace of a broom in sight.
"Miss Olivia," Li Ang's tone was somewhat stiff, tinged with helplessness and a hint of annoyance.
"Where's your broom? Didn't I clearly say yesterday that if you don't have your own broom, you can ask the team to borrow one? How are we supposed to carry out our aerial patrol mission like this?"
The series of questions, tinged with reproach, startled Olivia, who then showed a slightly aggrieved expression.
She pouted and retorted in a soft but clear voice, "But I—don't use a broom."
"No need for a broom?" Li Ang was a little confused by this question.
Just as he was about to ask what she meant, he heard a soft "poof" sound, and two huge dragon wings covered with dark red scales suddenly unfolded from behind her.
